Positive Biopsychosocial Profile (PBP)

Positive Psychiatry (PP) was deigned to pick up where traditional psychiatry left off. The focus of PP is to assess positive biopsychosocial profile (PBP) and restore the misbalance created by visualizing mental health through the deficit-model as an additive value to traditional-psychiatry, by fostering well-being through promoting positive- emotions, thoughts, and behaviors under voluntary control. PBP characteristics include resilience, self-regulation flexibility, self-compassion, social support, adaptability, and a sense of purpose and meaning, all of which contribute to overall psychological stability. When assessing mental health, it is essential to consider not only the presence of trauma or dysfunction but also the strengths that an individual possesses, as these factors can influence recovery and long-term wellbeing. A strength- based evaluation helps clinicians understand how a person copes with adversity and what protective factors can be leveraged in treatment. By integrating PBP into mental health assessments, we will offer personalized and effective care plans, using youth strength and positive biopsychosocial traits to enhance wellbeing, enhancing these traits and incorporating advanced personal and social coping skills and interactions to thrive in their emotion regulation flexibility. Furthermore, addition of youths’ positive biopsychosocial traits allows for a holistic
approach to care that not only addresses existing mental health concerns but also fosters personal growth and stability. Providing necessary care means implementing interventions that reinforce these positive characteristics while addressing areas of need. This can be achieved through psychoeducation and interventions that empower individuals to utilize their internal strengths and support systems. By prioritizing a balanced approach that acknowledges both challenges and strengths, we can create a more effective and sustainable mental health support system that promotes healing and long-term wellbeing.
